THE TOP 3 PRODUCTIVITY TIPS LEADERS USE TO GET RESULTS

Being productive is just one of the things that Powerful Leaders do to deliver results.  They set goals and they deliver.  And they do it facing the same level of distractions, fires and office drama that we all face.

Of all the leadership competencies that are critical to success, you want to make sure you nail productivity because if you can’t drive results or get things done, it doesn’t matter what other skills you have in your back pocket.  Eventually you’re going to be out of work, or your business will go sideways.

Here are the Top 3 Productivity Tips Leaders Use to Get Results.

THE POMODORO TECHNIQUE:

The Pomodoro Technique was invented in the early 1990's by Francesco Cirillo. The system was named "Pomodoro" after the tomato-shaped timer he used to track his work.

The essence of this technique is to chunk your workday into small, focused bites and then take a short break. Here's how it works;

  1. Select a task to get done.
  2. Set your timer to a small chunk of time. The Pomodoro Technique traditionally recommends 25 minutes.
  3. Work solidly on the task for 25 minutes without any distractions.
  4. At the end of 25 minutes, stop what your doing and put a checkmark on a piece of paper. if you have less than four checkmarks, take a 5 minute break, and then come back for your next 25 minute cycle.
  5. Once you have four checkmarks, take a 15-20 minute break. Then come back to start the process again for as many times as you like.

THE IVY LEE METHOD:

This is a trusted and true productivity method invented by Ivy Ledbetter Lee in the early 1900's. Mr. Lee was a productivity consultant for the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, and a successful businessman in his own right.

The method is very simplistic. And it works brilliantly if you have the commitment to make it work.

If you commit to nothing... you'll be distracted by everything - Ivy Lee

Here's how it works.

  1. At the end of each work day, write down a maximum of the six most important things you need to accomplish tomorrow. Do not write down more than six tasks.
  2. Prioritize those six items in order of their true importance
  3. When you start your workday, start with the first task. Concentrate only on the first task and work until it's finished before moving on to the second task.
  4. Approach the rest of your list in the same fashion. At the end of the day, move any unfinished items to a new list of six tasks for the following day.
  5. Repeat this process every working day.
